About Song O' Sky Chorus

Sweet Adelines International is a non-profit international women's organization with over 650 choruses worldwide.  Song O' Sky Chorus was founded in 1974--making us Asheville area's oldest as well as only women's barbershop-style choral group, and our current membership includes five WNC counties.

One of the highlights of the Sweet Adelines year is our annual convention which attracts thousands of members and others to the excitement of international competition.  In October, 2010, the convention was held in Seattle, WA.  Click here to view an exciting video of the "Mass Sing" where thousands of members joined voices in harmony.

                                       Song O'Sky Chorus Vision Statement:

Song O' Sky aspires to be the most "in demand" musical group in Western Carolina, performing a capella harmony in the barbershop style.

Song O' Sky Chorus is dedicated to teaching and promoting the singing of a cappella, four-part harmony, barbershop style, which is part of our musical heritage.  The barbershop style began with ad lib harmonizing in minstrel shows in the 1800's and eventually developed into a complex, technically precise and challenging musical medium.  It strives to perfect the balance and harmony of four well-matched voice parts (tenor, lead, baritone, and bass) into a full, rich, and exciting sound that has been known to cause goose bumps on those who listen!  This style of singing can enhance any song, whether it's a Broadway show tune, a patriotic song, jazz or blues, favorite pop song, or romantic ballad.

Song O' Sky usually presents an annual show, complete with costumes and choreography.  We also accept paid singing engagements for a wide variety of group events-- large and small, private and public.  A select number of free performances for community service is also presented each year.  If you are interested in booking a group for your event, please click on the Hire Us link.

Song O' Sky also offers its members unique and wide ranging opportunities for education and experience in other areas such as directing, music arranging, show production, administration, and leadership skills.Throughout the year in different locations special weeked "music schools" are offered on a variety of topics. All members are eligible and are encouraged to attend as many as possible. The cost is minimal compared with the benefits gained. Coaching sessions are a regular part of the musical training opportunities offered. There is so much more to membership than paying dues and attending weekly rehearsals, and we are very proud to be part of Sweet Adelines International which makes these opportunities possible.

If you are interested in joining the chorus, click the How to Join link.  Guests are welcome at any rehearsal.

Song O' Sky Chorus Mission Statement:

Song O'Sky is a sisterhood of singers who perform four part barbershop harmony. We provide quality musical education and performance opportunities that encourage personal growth of our members.
